I got this recipe from the Primal Blue Print by Mark of Mark’s Daily Apple. I thought it was going to be a little blah at first, but it actually is pretty dang good!
1# Flank or skirt steak, sliced 1/4″ thick
5 Tablespoons Tamari*
3 Teaspoons Ginger
1/2 Teaspoons Chinese Spice
2 heads of broccoli
6-8oz Bean Sprouts
1/4 Mint
1/4 Cilantro
Marinate meat in Tamari, ginger, and 5 spice for at least an hour. The longer it marinates the stronger the flavor. When done marinated Heat oil in pan and brown meat. While meat is cooking lightly steam the broccoli in separate pot. Put about an inch of water in pan with broccoli, cover and bring to boil and turn heat off. When meat is cooked, mix with broccoli (drained), and sprouts. When you are ready to serve, lightly top/garnish with cilantro and mint. For the busy this also freezes really well although do leave out the cilantro and mint until you reheat and are ready to eat.
*Read your labels and looks for gluten free soy sauce.
*If soy is an issue for you try fish sauces, however it can have a funny smell, but tastes delicious. I would start with half the recommended amount and add as you cook to keep smell down.
So is Tamari okay on a Paleo diet? I’m confused. We have some and I would LOVE to use it, but I thought it was a no-no.
Tamari is an exception that some people make SOME times but it is not considered strictly paleo and definitely not OK for a whole30 challenge.
Thanks Jenna!!
